GTA ALLSTARS ANNOUNCE MOVE TO POWER 5 FOOTBALL LEAGUE AFTER TWO DECADES IN NFC
Toronto, ON — After more than 20 years of competition in the Northern Football Conference (NFC), the GTA ALLSTARS have officially announced their departure from the league to join the Ontario Power 5 Football League, a rapidly growing league entering just its second year of operation.
The move marks a significant new chapter for one of Canada’s most accomplished semi-professional football organizations. The ALLSTARS leave the NFC as nine-time consecutive Provincial Champions and four-time National Champions, a run of sustained excellence that firmly established the franchise as a national powerhouse.
Owner Didi Nwagbo says the decision reflects both growth and vision for the future.
“This is about growth, legacy, and the future of the GTA ALLSTARS,” said Nwagbo. “We’ve accomplished a great deal in the NFC, but the Power 5 represents a new level of competition and exposure. We’re excited to extend our winning culture into this league and challenge ourselves against the best.”
The transition also reignites a familiar rivalry. The Sarnia Imperials, longtime rivals of the ALLSTARS, currently sit atop the Power 5 Football League, setting the stage for one of the league’s most anticipated matchups.
“Rivalries fuel this sport,” Nwagbo added. “Seeing Sarnia on the throne makes this move even more meaningful. We know what it takes to win championships, and we’re coming to compete.”
The move comes during a period of rebranding and rebuilding for the GTA ALLSTARS. While embracing new talent and a refreshed identity, the organization remains grounded in its championship standards and winning mentality.
As the Ontario Power 5 Football League continues to grow, the addition of the GTA ALLSTARS brings immediate credibility, competitive balance, and championship pedigree to the league. Fans and football insiders alike will be watching closely as one of Canada’s most successful franchises begins its next pursuit of excellence — on a new stage, against new challenges.
